16 years ago, Pakistani-Canadian Carl Rodrigues decided to quit job and develop a computer product which made his family to think that he is not in his senses. Now, $1 billion is the worth of this company. He told that everyone was surprised and unhappy about his decision but his biggest problem was lack of practical ideas.

He added that he wanted to do maximum about the thing he like most. Initially, he had no idea what to do but he stick with it and later decided after a tiresome effort that he should design a software system that would help users to use their laptops to control their mobile phones.

Initially, the sale grows slowly but he received a call from a large supermarket group of UK after 12 months. The firm wanted to incorporate the system in its operations so that their staff can communicate data and information easily and it wasn’t interested to purchase the system.

He told that he pretended to them that they are talking to a firm instead of a single person present in a basement by speaking to them in different tone for different staff members. It worked and the UK firm ordered for 20,000 units. The business grew further and now he has revenues of $80 million per year.

Rodrigues migrated to Canada at the age of 11 with his family in search of better education and career while he belongs to a Roman Catholic Pakistani family. After completing his school, he took degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Toronto.

After his graduation, Carl worked as a consultant for few years and later launched his own company in 2001. Today, his company has more than 700 employees in 22 countries and 17,000 business customers worldwide.

Rodrigues retained the ownership of company despite several offers including an undisclosed offer in 2006 by Microsoft. He and his wife are 100% owners of the company which is now located in two buildings in Mississauga instead of a basement. Carl is now trying to recruit talented computer programmers for progress of his firm.

A British-Pakistani teenager has rejected an offer of 5 million pound for his website as he think he can earn lot more through this website.

Google Code Jam Offers $15,000 Prize Pool

What is Google Code Jam?

Code Jam is a programming competition famous all over the world since last 14 years. In this global contest, algorithm puzzles have to be solved. Online registration is open for everyone after which they can participate in qualifying rounds. Passing these rounds will take the winner to next round. A time limit is given to solve each round with 3 to 4 problems.

Last year in 2016, there were 7 rounds in the Code Jam which ended with World Finals. Apart from the World Final, all the other rounds are contested online. In August 2017, the World Final will be held in Ireland at Google’s office.

In order to get the grand prize of $15,000 and achieve the title of the “Code Jam World Champion”, 25 best code jammers of the year will compete with champion of last year. Apart from that, Code Jam T-shirt will be given to top 1,500 performers this year.

At the official site of Google’s code jam, registration is open for everyone. It only requires a Google account. 7^th April 2017 is the last date to register for this competition.

Developers Earn Over $20 Billion from App Store in 2016

Apple says that $20 billion were made by App Store developers in year 2016 which is 40% more as compared to 2015. Customer purchases of $240 million were made in total at New Year’s Day on Apple Store, according to the company.

The most earning apps of the year were told by company that includes Fantasy Westward, Monster strike, Pokemon Go and Clash Royale. The most downloaded app on New Year’s Day and Christmas was Super Mario Run. Total of $3 billion was spent by customers in December on the App Store.

It was told by Apple’s senior VO Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller that 1^st January 2017 was the single biggest day for purchases on App Store while 2016 was also a record breaking year with generation of $20 billion for developers.

According to Apple, the names of independently developed apps that earned most in 2016 were Reigns, Prisma, Lumino City, Procreate, djay Pro and Sweat with Kayla.

For fight against AIDS and World Wildlife Fund, Apple raised $17 billion for the campaigns named “Product (Red)” and “Apps for Earth Program” respectively.

HBO Now, Netflix, MLB.com and Tinder are the apps with subscription fee for which Apple’s total revenue in 2016 remained $2.7 billion that was 74% more as compared to 2015.

The new iMessage App Store was also mentioedn by Apple as the users can now install 21,000 iMessages apps.
