The Google+ application for iPhone got an update yesterday, according to a Google+ blog post by Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President at Google.  The new version of the application includes several user experience enhancements such as larger profile images, easier browsing of photos and videos and visual cues that make it obvious what your options are.

Google+ has been steadily improving it’s mobile offerings as of late, with XXX .  This new update for iPhone, is the first news on that mobile front in a while, and represents a desire by Google to “focus on the most personal of personal computers: your mobile phone.”

The new application upgrade includes some visual elements and some functional elements.  The visual ones are:

• Whether you post photos or articles or text, we’re making ‘em look good
• We’re adding crisper fonts, larger profile pics and a friendlier homescreen
• We’re making the stream easier to scan, and easier on the eyes with overlays, gradients and other visual elements

These changes, apparently inspired by the included Men in Black link, may seem minor, but as the months pass we can see applications like Google+ and Facebook slowly iterating their visual design on mobile to be more accessible, and crisper fonts will help users distinguish apps like Google+ from other mobile social networking apps that may not be putting as much effort into visual polish.

The functional updates are mostly related to the news feed and stream, and are listed below.

• Conversations fall into view as you move forward and backward in time
• Optical cues (like parallax) help the mind linger on individual posts
• Important actions like +1 now float atop the stream, making it easy to endorse all your favorites
